SNCF

SNCF specializes in the transportation and mobility sectors. The SNCF Innovation and Research Department is responsible for developing the Public Rail Group’s (GPF) innovation and research strategy and provides SNCF Mobilités and SNCF Réseau with a shared resource hub, particularly for proposing studies and developing methods for innovations. It carries out missions in behalf of the SNCF group for business intelligence and to evaluate technologies and shed light upon the future.

The mobility sector is undergoing a major transformation: technological revolution, new uses, new players and ecological urgency. Everyone's mobility is being transformed on a daily basis.

At the heart of these upheavals, SNCF must reinvent its railway system and invent new forms of mobility to make it easier for everyone to travel while protecting the planet. To achieve this, anticipating, mastering and adapting to technological breakthroughs are more important than ever.

This is the role of the SNCF Innovation and Research Department:

  • Exploring technological opportunities within 5 to 10 years.

  • Prepare the technological pivots by placing the technology at the service of users (customers and collaborators).

  • Propose rapid experimentation and deployment methods within the group's activities.

Robotics is one of the key fields in the ongoing technological evolution. However, the "human/robot" symbiosis cannot be decreed; it must be thought out. Its implementation can only be based on good intentions. Moreover, it is necessary to develop tools and methodologies. It is only in the multidisciplinary crucible of the RbD Lab, by combining academic knowledge, the experiences of different industrial sectors and target audiences (clients and collaborators) that we will be able to take up this formidable challenge.
